Offensive or awesome were the opinions of the general public as kooky Lady Gaga stepped out sporting a dress, hat, purse and boots made entirely from cuts of raw animal flesh at the MTV Video Music Awards. Days earlier, the pop hit maker fuelled criticism when she posed in a bikini made from slabs of beef for the cover of Japan's Hommes Vogue magazine. Gaga’s crazy fashion stunt angered animal rights groups and disgusted celebrities alike. Rapper Eminem allegedly refused to sit next to her at the awards ceremony. Gaga deflected criticism over the meat dress, saying that it was a statement about the US military's ‘Don't Ask, Don't Tell’ policy, which stops gay people admitting their sexuality.

America’s most talked-about reality TV star is known for being a sucker for plastic surgery procedures. Heidi went under the knife in November 2009, but for seven weeks she kept her dramatic transformation a secret from even her closest family members. In January this year, Heidi, who confessed that she is ‘beyond obsessed’ with surgery, revealed her new look to the world after undergoing 10 procedures in one day. The 24-year-old reportedly ‘risked her life’ a second time to have a string of surgeries, including having her breasts enlarged to size E, a chin reduction, neck liposuction, buttock augmentation and a mini-brow lift. After going through changes over the last five series, her fans were able to see the severity of her plastic surgery fix, as a confused and fragile Heidi unveiled her new look on the last series of ‘The Hills’ in September. According to sources, the wannabe pop singer has allegedly had so much surgery done, that she cannot legally undergo any more.

Russell Brand’s new wife and acclaimed singer Katy Perry made a rather racy cameo appearance on American children’s show ‘Sesame Street’ earlier this year. It was so racy, in fact, producers of the show decided not to air it. The pop star, who wore a figure-hugging neon-yellow ensemble, commented on the cut, saying, "Wow, looks like my play date with Elmo has been cut short!" However, Perry hit back at the banned cleavage scandal - mocking ‘Sesame Street’ on ‘Saturday Night Live’ by donning a low-cut T-shirt of Elmo.

Tennis fans got more than they bargained for when tennis star Venus Williams walked onto the court at the French Open in Paris this year. Scantily-clad in what looked like a ‘Moulin Rouge’ inspired black and red lacy negligee and a pair of flesh-coloured pants, Venus didn’t turn the heads of those sitting courtside at the game just because of her amazing backhand. When Americans were asked to vote in a USA Today poll about her risqué choice, 40% suggested that someone at the women’s tennis tour should ask Williams to ‘cover up.’ Justifying her wardrobe pick, the Californian said: "Lace has never been done before in tennis, and I've wanted to do it for a long time. The illusion of just having bare skin is definitely for me a lot more beautiful."

Former Spice Girl Melanie Brown unveiled her weirdest hairstyle to date this year. Walking alongside fellow ex-pat Leona Lewis, who sported feminine golden tresses, at a Las Vegas event, the 34-year-old shocked bystanders as she showed off her unusual half-grade 1 shaven hairdo. But, the punk look didn’t stop with her. Mel also gave her daughters, 2-year-old Angel Iris and 11-year-old Phoenix Chi, matching rock chick Mohicans.
